In Bed With a Sex Surrogate

SEX surrogates are hired by sex therapists to have physical and/or emotional relations with clients. This may or may not include intercourse. Currently there are no laws or licensing regulations regarding sex surrogates, the closest being a certification program from the non-profit group, International Professional Surrogates Association.
Clients typically alternate weekly sessions between therapist and surrogate; the latter two periodically confer on the client’s progress. Rates are roughly the same as per-hour therapy rates, and not covered by insurance. Payment is made directly to the surrogate. Most therapists are reluctant to use sex surrogates for ethical reasons and/or legal complications.
Often confused with prostitution, surrogate Stephanie Wadell tries to clarify, “Men that see prostitutes buy what they want, and it’s done. They are already fifty percent healthier than any client that sees a surrogate.” Brian Swager, a San Francisco based surrogate adds, “What we’re doing is helping someone resolve issues. If someone came to a surrogate expecting the same thing as from a prostitute, they would walk away very disappointed.”
